Where are you based?

We row on the north end of Long Pond on Mt. Desert Island, Maine.

How do I find you?

The north end of Long Pond is located off of Route 102 on Pretty Marsh Road. National Park Canoe and Kayak Rentals is right across the street. Check them out if you’re at all interested in renting canoes or kayaks!

Where should I park?

Please do not park in the National Park Canoe and Kayak rental parking lot. There is a small parking lot right next to Long Pond. You can also park on the side of Whitney Farm Road. Be careful. Pretty Marsh and Whitney Farm are both active, busy roads.

What should I wear?

Dress in layers! It’s cooler on the water, and you can always take a layer (or two!) off.  Avoid cotton. Try not to wear loose shorts/pants as fabric can get caught in the slides under the moving seats. We wet-launch the boats, which means wading in the water, so wear shoes (i.e. Crocs or sandals) that can get wet. Going barefoot is not recommended.

What should I bring?

Bring a pair of socks with you for the actual rowing; boats are equipped with special shoes. Water and sunscreen are recommended as well.

What if the weather is bad?

Check the weather before you leave home. We will not row if there is thunder, lightening, or whitecaps, or if the air and water temperature combined are below 90 degrees F.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes, this is a water sport. Though unlikely, it is possible to flip or be ejected from a boat. Experienced rowers wishing to take out a single must take a flip test to demonstrate they can safely right their boat in the event of a capsize.
